NetWeave - Open Access To Legacy Systems

oday's enterprise-wide, mission-critical applications require legacy systems of yesterday and open systems of tomorrow to cooperate in complex, distributed applications. It enables a program on one machine to talk to programs on other machines and to have access to remote data just as easily as if those remote programs and data were local to it. A Windows-based order entry system, for instance, may need to obtain customer information and to update billing information held by an IBM financial system. It may also need to access and update inventory on a Stratus warehousing system and to request new inventory from a Tandem scheduling system. The Tandem, in turn, may have to request the manufacture of items from a OpenVMS-based manufacturing system.

NetWeave provides the interoperability services required to build such distributed applications. And by hiding the complexities of the network and foreign operating systems from the programmer, NetWeave permits new network applications to be built as easily as were local applications in the past.

NetWeave's powerful library of remote services provides software developers with data query and update capabilities wherever that data resides and in whatever form, from proprietary file systems to SQL data bases. Additional features provide peer-to-peer messaging services to link applications across the network, thereby allowing developers to build their own client/server and peer pairs.

NetWeave Connects

NetWeave supports all popular hosts and workstation platforms connected by any of today's common LAN or WAN protocols. NetWeave is totally symmetric in that any platform can act as a client or a server, whether it be a large host machine or a small workstation. Your applications can reach to the remote data and processes of:

HOST MAINFRAMES

IBM OS390
HP/Compaq AlphaServer
HP/Himalaya
Sun HPC/Enterprise
HP V-Series
IBM RS6000 S-Class

WORKSTATIONS

Windows/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
Sun UltraSparc Workstations
HP J-class workstations
IBM RS6000 43P Workstations
Linux
Macintosh

SQL DATABASES

Himalaya NonStop SQL
Oracle
Sybase
Informix
Ingres

... and all models in between !

NetWeave Architecture and Applications

Our architecture is based on the NetWeave Agent, which generally resides on every server system within a NetWeave application network.

NetWeave's Middleware Services

Today's enterprise-wide applications are demanding. They not only require user friendliness and desktop processing power but also access to corporate information not normally accessible from proprietary data bases. NetWeave middleware unlocks that data via its broad-based messaging and database services.
Client/Transaction Services
...allow a client application to send a complex, interactive transaction to a remote application server.
Message Queuing Services
...guarantee delivery of transactions and other messages even in the face of server or network failures.
Message Broadcast Services
...provide synchronization among numerous remote applications.
Client/Database Services
...allow a client application to directly access and update data in foreign proprietary file systems and in SQL databases.
Transaction Services
...ensure consistency of all data bases.
Data Conversion Services
...reconcile data format differences between platforms.
Security Services
... ensure controlled access to the application and its data.
Directory Services
...allow data and servers to be freely moved about the network.
File Transfer Services
... transfer files around the network.
Remote Spooling Services
...allow a client to take advantage of a remote spooler to deliver text files to a remote printer, file, or application.
Dual LAN Support
...connect network applications to servers over two LANs.
